Carter On National Deputy Leadership
National MP David Carter will not be standing for the deputy leadership of the party.
“Getting Don Brash elected leader of our party is just so important to the future of our country,” Mr Carter said today.
“I have no intention of allowing any personal ambition I may have to get in the way of that goal.
“It is a sign of the man’s leadership skills and integrity that Don Brash is saying he will be making no deals with anyone in the leadership challenge he announced yesterday.
“I look forward to serving in his caucus in any role in which he believes I can make the best contribution.
“I also look forward to working with whomever the caucus elects to be Don’s deputy.
“Our caucus is full of people with huge talent and under Don’s leadership we will be the most effective opposition you’ve ever seen and we’ll get ready to deliver the exciting policy and good government that New Zealanders deserve.
“This arrogant Labour minority Government is doing terrible harm to New Zealand. It must go. That must be our over-riding goal. Under Don’s leadership, National will take the fight to it.”
