Adams welcomes cut in small business paper-pushing

The fact that 60 percent of New Zealand's smallest businesses will receive no Statistics New Zealand questionnaires next year and a further 17 percent, just one, is a step in the right direction, United Future's Paul Adams said today.

"If it cuts the red tape and allows business to do business, we support it," Mr Adams, United Future's commerce spokesman, said.

"Business in general, and small business in particular, has long had a genuine gripe about the amount of bureaucracy that surrounds their endeavours. Anything that cuts that away is a good thing.

"This country has to increasingly create an environment where small business can thrive and prosper," he said. "And one of the biggest hindrances to getting a business moving is the incessant paper-pushing required in the past by so many government departments."
