Peters' challenge is to put New Zealanders First, support Four Weeks Annual Leave For All Workers
Progressive Party deputy leader, Matt Robson, said today that Winston Peters' biggest current challenge is to put New
Zealand and New Zealanders first, including those on the lowest incomes who would most benefit from winning four weeks
annual leave.
"NZ First delegates attending their party's convention this weekend were told they are a centrist party committed to
First World wages and conditions for the workforce," Matt Robson said.
"Delegates were told their party is a centre party open to progressive policies on employment, health, housing and
education and not just a trojan horse to assist Richard Prebble and Don Brash form the next coalition government," Matt
Robson added.
"That has got to be good news and the best way to show it is true is to ensure NZ First members of Parliament vote with
the coalition government on policies to encourage people into jobs and off welfare, to support increased investment in
education and health services and to support other progressive policies," Matt Robson said.
"What could be more progressive than voting in favour of updating our annual leave provisions to better reflect the
real financial circumstances of working families in the 21st Century?
"Four weeks annual leave is a critical financial issue in the battle to keep low income families in the productive
workforce contributing to New Zealand's economic development," the Progressive MP said.
"The financial cost of balancing work and family responsibilities is too high or on the margin of being unaffordable
for many low income two parent families. Four weeks' leave is long overdue for this part of the productive workforce and
I look forward to NZ First's continued support on this issue," Matt Robson said
