Commerce (Michelle Malyon, SC-Commerce@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee met on Thursday, 2 October in Auckland to hear evidence on the inquiry into the New Zealand electricity industry.

The committee will next meet Thursday, 9 October to continue its consideration of the inquiry into the New Zealand electricity industry and the Business Law Reform Bill.

Education and Science (Angela Van Dam, SC-ES@parliament.govt.nz)

Next week the committee will meet on Wednesday, 8 October to consider the inquiry into teacher education and the 2002/03 financial review of the National Library of New Zealand.

The subcommittee will also meet on Wednesday, 8 October to consider the inquiry into decile funding in New Zealand State and integrated schools.

Government Administration (Lesley Ferguson, SC-GA@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee next meets on Thursday, 9 October to begin its consideration of the Building Bill. It will also continue its consideration of the petition from Dr Barton Vaitoa Sa and 100,000 others that seeks the repeal of the Citizenship (Western Samoa) Act 1982.

The committee is still calling for public submissions on the Maritime Security Bill and the Building Bill. The closing date for the Maritime Bill is 17 October 2003 and 31 October 2003 for the Building Bill.

Health (Catherine Parkin, SC-Health@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee did not meet this week. It will meet on Wednesday next week, when it will continue consideration of its inquiry into the proposal for a trans-Tasman agency to regulate therapeutic products, and of several petitions.

Justice and Electoral (Louise Sparrer, SC-JE@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee meets next week to commence hearing evidence on the Care of Children Bill. This will be open to the public from 9.40 am to 12 noon. The committee is calling for submissions on two bills: the Lawyers and Conveyancers Bill and the Judicial Matters Bill.

Law and Order (Tracey Rayner, SC-LO@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee did not meet this week. It will meet next week on Wednesday, 8 October to continue consideration of the Corrections Bill, the Telecommunication (Interception Capability) Bill, and the Courts and Criminal Matters Bill.

Maori Affairs (Miles Reay, SC-MA@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee did not meet this week. On Thursday, 9 October the committee will further consider its inquiry into the Crown Forestry Rental Trust.

Regulations Review (Michael Wilkinson, SC-RR@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee will meet on Wednesday, 8 October to continue its regular scrutiny of new Government regulations.

Social Services (Graham Hill, SC-SS@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee will meet on Thursday, 9 October to continue its consideration of the Families Commission Bill. The bill has a report due date of 12 November 2003.

Transport and Industrial Relations (Kath Henderson, SC-TI@parliament.govt.nz)

A meeting to consider the Land Transport Management Bill was held on Thursday, 2 October. Further consideration of this bill is programmed for after question time on 7 October. This bill has a report due date of 13 October 2003.

Further consideration of the Civil Aviation Amendment Bill will take place on Thursday, 9 October. This bill has a report due date of 13 November 2003.

The committee will further consider the Holidays Bill and the Holidays (Four Weeks Annual Leave) Amendment Bill at the meeting on Thursday, 9 October. These bills have a report due date of 1 December 2003.
