Police File Pulled - Please Explain
Police File Pulled - Please Explain
New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters is seeking an assurance that a police file taken from Lower Hutt to Wellington last night was not used for political purposes.
The police file apparently relates to Danny Alkema who rode a trailbike on the grounds of Parliament in May in protest at the Government’s law and order policies.
Mr Peters raised the issue in Parliament yesterday to seek an assurance that the Speaker’s Office had not been involved in a police decision not to prosecute Mr Alkema – a point raised by Mr Alkema himself.
“It was disappointing that today in Parliament we were given an explanation that appears to conflict with what Mr Alkema told me yesterday and today.
“It is even more disturbing to find out that a police file was dug up last night, obviously in response to the issue being raised in Parliament, and we would like to know why, and where the file was taken.
“The Government has some explaining to do. Did the Minister or any of his staff become involved in this issue? How many people in Parliament learned the contents of this file and who provided them with this information?
“I
will be raising this issue again in Parliament tomorrow and
will keep doing so until we learn the facts,” said Mr
Peters.
