Clark right to bag the Greens
The Prime Minister is entirely right to point out that the Green Party is inherently incapable of working in an MMP political environment, according to United Future leader, Peter Dunne, today.
"MMP is about working constructively with the major party elected by the New Zealand voter to advance policies that benefit the whole country," he said.
"The Greens arrogantly believe that they alone have all the right answers and it is somehow the duty of the Labour-led Government to implement those views blindly.
"That may make sense to unthinking fanatical zealots, but it is not the view of mainstream New Zealand which in recent years has consistently supported Labour and equally consistently resisted putting more Green MP's in Parliament.
"I share Miss Clark's view that she has been the object of a smear campaign against her run by the Green co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons and National's Nick Smith.
"Mrs Fitzsimons disingenuously claims she is trying to be fair, but the view of a fanatic about what's fair is not the view of mainstream New Zealanders," said Mr Dunne.
Mr Dunne hoped the whole Green-National smear campaign will be remembered by the voters at the next election when they are thinking about who will make a stable, sensible partner for the governing party.
