What next for the Charter?

Katherine Rich MP National Party Broadcasting Spokeswoman

29 August 2003

What next for the Charter?

"Sparkly g-strings? Condoms? What next, brothel vouchers and complimentary lap dances?

"TVNZ under the Charter is getting weirder by the day," says National Party Broadcasting spokeswoman Katherine Rich. She's commenting on the publicity campaigns for TVNZ shows The Real Strip, which has been promoted with giveaway sparkly g-strings and Girls Behaving Badly which was promoted with freebee condoms. "The Charter was big on hype but it has delivered little," Mrs Rich says.

"New Zealanders expected more first run documentaries and better programming.

"They did not expect fewer documentary hours, axed current affairs shows, savaged news budgets, expensive 'waka steerers' and g-string giveaways. "The Broadcasting Minister needs to explain," says Mrs Rich.
