Gangs Flourish Under Soft Government

Gangs Flourish Under Soft Government

New Zealand First has asked the Government why it tolerates gang warfare that threatens public safety in the Bay of Plenty.

This follows a shootout in the town of Taneatua yesterday involving about 20 members of the Mongrel Mob and Black Power. Innocent bystanders had to flee to safety.

Law and order spokesperson Ron Mark said today that this latest incident in the area was an appalling indictment of Labour’s softly-softly approach to the criminal behaviour of gangsters.

“These gangsters have been a nuisance and a threat to public safety in the Bay of Plenty for many years and it is long past time to start dealing to them.

“Many of them are Maori, which enables them to hide behind the politically correct façade created by this Government and police have insufficient resources and legislative muscle to act firmly against these villains.

“They should be classified as terrorists because that is the only way to describe them and they should be treated as such under appropriate laws.

“Why should New Zealanders have to accept the intolerable situation of gangs gaining control of areas because of soft politicians?

“Gangs have also been terrorising a suburb in Palmerston North and the only real response of the Government so far has been to put them in state houses,” said Mr Mark.
