PM announces winners of Korean War essay competition

Prime Minister Helen Clark tonight announced the winners of the student essay competition on the Korean War.

"The four winners are Michelle Bannister, Waitara High School; Ubin Kim, Howick College; Clare Rostron, Wanganui High School; and Paul Davidson, Christ’s College.

"The authors of the these essays will accompany the official New Zealand delegation to Korea later this month for the commemorations marking the fiftieth anniversary of the end of the Korean War.

“The winners were selected by the Speaker of the House and former history teacher, Jonathan Hunt. My congratulations go to all the students who participated in the competition," Helen Clark said.

The four essay competition winners will accompany the Prime Minister and the official delegation to Korea for the commemoration and participate in international ceremonies from 24 to 28 July. The delegation also includes veterans groups, a New Zealand Defence Force honour guard, and a concert party.
