Lifting of ban on Taimi o Tonga welcomed
The news that the Tongan Government has accepted the ruling of the Tongan Supreme Court was welcomed today by Matt Robson MP, Progressive deputy leader. The Taimi’o Tonga (Times of Tonga) newspaper can now be distributed in the kingdom.
“What is to be hoped is that freedom of speech and opinion and freedom of the media, as guaranteed by the present constitution, will be respected. Reform has to come at all levels in Tonga, and open and democratic debate will assist in assuring that reform is constructive and orderly,” said Matt Robson.
