Maharey Comments On Hobsonville
House building at the former Hobsonville air force base would require environmental and other planning consents to be met, Minister of Housing Steve Maharey said today.
“There will have to be an all-clear on the environmental front from planning consent authorities including Waitakere City Council for houses to built in any affected area,” he said.
He said Housing New Zealand Corporation was aware of the report prepared for the New Zealand Defence Force which outlined the environmental issues related to parts of the Hobsonville air base.
HNZC and the Defence Force are currently working through the transfer process for a part of the land at Hobsonville which is planned to be set aside for state housing purposes.
The NZDF has said the contaminated
areas identified in its environmental audit report are not
in the approximately 32 hectares of land set to be
transferred for
housing.
