Liquor Ban
Difficulties Temporary - Peters
New Zealand First Leader and MP for Tauranga, Rt Hon Winston Peters has urged the people of Tauranga not to be overly concerned by the recent developments which has seen the Police decide to not enforce the Tauranga Council’s liquor bans, imposed in specific parts of the city.
“The error in the public notification process, which has placed a question mark over the legal satus of the ban is temporary I am sure,” said Mr Peters.
“Having been responsible for the legislation giving Councils throughout New Zealand the right to impose liquor laws in order to protect decent citizens from the antics of a drunken minority, I am determined the will of the people of Tauranga and their elected council representatives and Mayor, will prevail and I am sure the necessary public notification process will quickly be put in place to give effect to this very necessary law as soon as it is possible to do so,” concluded Mr Peters.
