PI population growth offers huge opportunities for jobs
News that Pacific Islanders
will make up nine per cent of the population by 2021 is a
great opportunity for New Zealand, Progressive MP Matt
Robson says.
Stats NZ has reported that New Zealand's Pacific population is expected to reach 414,000 in 2021.
Matt Robson says New Zealand’s unique cultural influences are immensely valuable.
“Increasing living standards in the future will depend more and more on our ability to produce things that rely on unique talents and creativity – things like distinctive design and creative flair.
“New Zealand is probably better positioned to commercialise our Pacific influences than any other country in the world.
“As our Pacific – and Maori – population grows, it will provide us the opportunity to increase Maori and Pacific influences right across our economy. That will be very positive as the world places more and more value on distinctive production, rather than on the lowest cost production of undifferentiated commodities,” Matt Robson said.
