Commerce (Michelle Malyon, SC-Commerce@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee will not be meeting over the adjournment.

The committee will next meet on Thursday, 12 June to continue its consideration of the Consumer Credit Bill and the Status of Redundancy Payments Bill. The committee will consider the 2003/04 Estimates for Vote Economic, Industry and Regional Development and continue its consideration of the petition of John Dickson.

Health (Catherine Parkin, SC-Health@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee did not meet this week. It will next meet on Wednesday, 4 June to hear evidence on the Health (Screening Programmes) Amendment Bill. This will be open to the public from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm in Room G.006 Parliament House, 2.30 pm to 3.00 pm in Room G.003 Parliament House, and 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm in Room G.006 Parliament House.

The committee has made a further call for submissions on the Human Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill and the Assisted Human Reproduction Bill. The committee is particularly interested in receiving submissions that consider the proposals contained in Supplementary Order Paper 80, relating to the Human Assisted Reproductive Technology Bill, which is available from Bennetts bookshops (or on http://www.justice.govt.nz/). It has the following purposes:

„h to prohibit unacceptable assisted reproductive procedures and unacceptable human reproductive research
„h to prohibit certain commercial transactions relating to human reproduction
„h to provide a framework for regulating and guiding the performance of assisted reproductive procedures and the conduct of human reproductive research
„h to prohibit the performance of assisted reproductive procedures (other than established procedures) or the conduct of human reproductive research without the continuing approval of an ethics committee
„h to establish a comprehensive information-keeping regime to ensure that people born as a result of donated cells can find out about their genetic origins.

Justice and Electoral (Louise Sparrer, SC-JE@parliament.govt.nz)

This week the committee met on 26 and 28 May. On Monday, 26 May the committee met in Auckland to hear submissions on the Supreme Court Bill. On Wednesday, 28 May the committee met in Wellington to continue hearing submissions on the Supreme Court Bill and to consider its 2001/02 financial review of the Abortion Supervisory Committee. It has now reported on this financial review.

The committee will not be meeting next week. Its next meeting will be on Wednesday, 11 June when it will consider its Estimates for 2003/04, the Supreme Court Bill, the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Bill and the Clean Slate Bill. The meeting will be held in room G.005 in Parliament House, and will be open to the public from 11.00 am to 12.00 pm for the hearing of evidence on Vote Justice.
Law and Order (Tracey Rayner, SC-LO@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee met on Wednesday, 28 May to hear evidence on the 2003/04 Estimates for Votes Courts, Police and Corrections. The Chief Executive and senior officials from each department presented their evidence in public.

The committee next meets on Wednesday, 11 June to consider the Criminal Investigations (Bodily Samples) Amendment Bill and to hear further evidence on the 2003/04 Estimates for Vote Police.

The committee is still calling for submissions on the Corrections Bill. This is because the original closing date for submissions (21 May 2003) has been extended. The closing date for submissions to be received is now Wednesday, 4 June 2003. Submissions should be sent to the Clerk of the Law and Order Committee, Tracey Rayner, Parliament Buildings, Wellington.

Local Government and Environment (Marie Alexander, SC-LGE@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee will be meeting on Thursday, 5 June in room G.003 of Parliament House, to hear evidence on the 2003/04 Estimates for Vote Conservation. The Minister of Conservation will give evidence on the vote. The committee will also hear further submissions on the Marine Reserves Bill.

Maori Affairs (Miles Reay, SC-MA@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee did not meet this week. It will next meet on Thursday, 12 June to hear advice and evidence on the 2003/04 Estimates for Vote Treaty Negotiations, and to deliberate on the report of its inquiry into the Crown Forestry Rental Trust.

The committee is calling for submissions on the Ngati Tama Claims Settlement Bill 2003. The closing date for submissions is 20 June 2003. Submissions should be addressed to Miles Reay, Clerk of the Maori Affairs Committee, Parliament Buildings, Wellington. Information about making a submission can be found on our website.

Primary Production (Bob Bunch, SC-PP@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee met on Wednesday, 28 May. The committee finished hearing evidence on the Wine Bill and considered the Wool Industry Restructuring Bill. The committee also continued its consideration of the 2003/04 Estimates and its inquiry into the administration and management of the Scampi fishery.

There will be two meetings in the week commencing 9 June 2003. On Monday, 9 June the committee will consider the Wool Industry Restructuring and Wine Bills in the morning and the inquiry into the administration and management of the Scampi fishery in the afternoon. On Thursday, 12 June the committee will continue its consideration of the Wool Industry Restructuring Bill and hear evidence from the Minister on Vote Biosecurity.

Transport and Industrial Relations (Kath Henderson, SC-TI@parliament.govt.nz)

The committee did not meet this week. The committee will next on Thursday, 12 June to hear evidence on the 2003/04 Estimates for Vote Transport. The meeting will be held in G.002 of Parliament House and will be open to the public during the hearing of evidence.
