Pseudo-Science on Vehicle Emissions is Bull
Aucklanders should be very suspicious of the pseudo-science being spouted by their Regional Council and Judith Tizard regarding motor vehicle emissions, ACT New Zealand Transport spokesman Deborah Coddington said today.
"The ARC has brought out to Auckland from California (wouldn't you just know it) a so-called overseas expert to stick a monitor up car exhausts and then tell us we're all going to be in hospital from respiratory diseases.
"It's already on the record that NIWA's readings on Auckland air are shonky. The research is not objective because it doesn't take into account anyone who is in hospital from smoking, asthma and other respiratory ailments. Yet we're constantly being told that more people in New Zealand die from car emissions than from car accidents.
"That is total bovine emission," Miss Coddington said.
"It's just an excuse for the ARC to regulate, regulate and regulate. Why not target the motorists whose vehicles don't pass the test, rather than punish us all? "No. Any excuse for the ARC to wield power will do. ARC chairman Gwen Bull is already aiming to tax Aucklanders an extra 300 per cent with the ARC's new direct rating system. She's on record as being 'proud of the council for carrying out such a big rate increase to try to sort out the transport problem'.
"Note the word 'try'," Miss Coddington said.
"If Gwen Bull really wanted to do something for
Aucklanders she would reduce spending, and stop taking
such a huge amount of money from Auckland business and
property owners to try and solve a transport mess caused by
big bureaucracy in the first place."
