Government breaking transport commitment already

The Government has already admitted its public transport policy is not sustainable, says National's Transport spokesman Roger Sowry.

"The main point of the Government's review of the patronage funding scheme is that annual funding increases for public transport are to be reduced.

"Last year's funding boost was a one-off sop to the Greens. The Government has now realised its own policy is not sustainable and it is backing down already.

"This is a slap in the face for the Green Party who have been ignored again by the Government. It's clear that last year's package was based on political rather than policy considerations," says Mr Sowry.
