Asset Testing Not Being Removed
Asset Testing Not Being Removed
The Labour led minority Government has let down the elderly yet again by failing to deliver on their promise of removing asset testing for the elderly in long term care.
“Raising the exemption threshold is not removing asset testing as the Government has told the elderly they will do in last two election campaigns,” said New Zealand First senior citizens spokesperson Barbara Stewart.
“The Government made promises to the elderly just to get votes, but it seems they have no intention of delivering.
“New Zealand First has been pushing for a law change since 1998 when we succeeded in removing asset testing only to have National renege on the agreement.
“Labour is now following National’s mean-minded example.
“This is another case of Labour’s broken promises that we warned would happen when they produced their ‘credit card’ of political pledges,” said Mrs Stewart.
