Workers Worse Off Under Labour
ACT Finance Spokesman Rodney Hide today said that the Labour Cost Index released yesterday proved what everyone, bar Labour politicians, have realised - that workers are worse off under the Labour Government.
"Wages rose 2.1 per cent, but inflation was 2.7 per cent - leaving workers worse off after another year under Labour than when they started. Wages are going up, but they are buying less and less.
"The average worker earns up to $800 more each year, but are having to spend $1,000 more for what they buy. This means they are $200 a years worse off under Labour.
"On top of that, working people are having to pay more tax than ever before.
"It's time that
Finance Minister Dr Michael Cullen stopped simply talking
about tax relief. He must cut taxes to let working people
keep more of what they earn," Mr Hide said.
