Speech paints a bleak picture for business

Speech paints a bleak picture for business

It is a sure bet that Margaret Wilson's speech to the PSA Delegates Seminar today is very different to the one Helen Clark will give to the upcoming Knowledge Wave Conference, says National's Deputy Leader and Industrial Relations spokesperson, Roger Sowry.

"The Prime Minister will continue to talk about growth and innovation at the Knowledge Wave Conference, with neat phrases and careful spin. Meanwhile, her Government will be planning to strangle business in compliance costs and employment hassles.

"Labour is intending to enact the contentious sale of business and contracting out provisions that were originally taken out of the ERA. These provisions will be crippling for New Zealand businesses, especially small and medium enterprises.

"Add to this an intention to enact pay equity legislation and to "promote equal pay for work of supposed equal value". Margaret Wilson clearly plans to have bureaucrats setting statutory levels of pay for each individual vocation."

Mr Sowry says this was just a small part of a raft of anti-business legislation Margaret Wilson mentioned in her speech.

"It all paints a very bleak picture for New Zealand business, and for any hope of sustained growth in the future," he says.
