National Party backs Auckland mayors
The National Party's giving its whole hearted support to Auckland mayors who now agree the Land Transport Management Bill isn't going to deliver the funding the city needs to get moving again.
"The issues they've raised are exactly why the National Party promised to champion changes at Select Committee level to make this Bill work," says National's Transport spokesman Roger Sowry.
"National's committed to working with the mayors of our biggest cities to change this Bill, Auckland can at least expect a sympathetic ear from our side of the house," says Mr Sowry.
"It's obvious that Auckland needs a whole network of improvements.
"But it's just as clear that the tolling and public private partnership provisions contained in the Bill could only be applied to very few projects.
"Labour and United Future introduced this Bill promising the world, but in reality they've again failed Auckland," Mr Sowry says.
