Make love for Christmas
Newest Green Party MP, Mike Ward has decided to go national with what was formerly the Nelson Green Christmas Gift Guide.
In today's adjournment speech in parliament on behalf of the Greens Mr Ward shared his unique gift giving advice with his fellow parliamentarians.
The Party's Small Business Spokesperson and Buy Local campaigner said "Christmas gift-giving has come in for some bad press in recent years, but making a fuss about the people we care about needn't cost an arm or a leg.
"Gift vouchers promising to wash or walk the dog, cook tea, go for a walk, make love, read a story or water the garden all have the capacity to enrich the lives of the giver and receiver alike, while leaving the bank balance intact," he said.
"These 'gifts' can be redeemed whenever the recipient chooses.
"If you must spend money, spend it locally. Buying local is likely to enhance life for someone in your community and make their life a little more enjoyable. We produce such wonderful hand crafts, food, clothing and experiences in this country."
The Green adjournment speech will be delivered this afternoon and, when delivered, can be seen at www.greens.org.nz
