Dunne’s Family Deal Falls Flat
New Zealand First says the Families Commission would be a good idea if it was based on the needs of the community rather than Labour’s need for votes for the next three years.
Spokesperson Barbara Stewart said today that if the Government was not aware of the needs of New Zealand families by now it should not be on the Treasury benches.
“Setting up the Families Commission is a fine idea in principle, but this government does not seem to be aware that families need practical help for survival rather than so-called commissioners holding endless meetings,” said Mrs Stewart.
“This move is a political sop to United Future and we do not believe that it will achieve anything.
“The best way of helping families would be to
ensure the availability of affordable housing, healthcare
and education. It would also help if state-owned power
companies and other enterprises like telephone companies
stopped exploiting families through exorbitant charges,”
said Mrs
Stewart.
