Kaitaia Hospital needs 24-hour service

Kaitaia Hospital needs 24-hour service

The independent review of Kaitaia Hospital’s 24-hour surgery service puts the ball in the Government’s court to fulfil its pre-election promise that Kaitaia would keep a 24-hour surgery service, says Northland MP John Carter.

“I hope the Minister won’t be swayed by the recommendations to close the unit given her pre-election promise that 24-hour surgery would remain.

“Annette King has given a firm commitment to the people of the north on many occasions that there would be no reduction in services.

“We just hope that these comments were not just the Minister making hollow promises before the election.

“Helen Clark and Annette King in Opposition both marched to save Kaitaia Hospital. This is their opportunity now that they are in Government,” Mr Carter said.
