McCully lays complaint against Commissioner
National MP Murray McCully is laying a formal complaint against the Race Relations Commissioner - with the Race Relations Commissioner.
The complaint relates to the speech delivered by the Race Relations Commissioner this week, drawing parallels between New Zealand’s colonial history and the actions of the Taleban.
Mr McCully alleges that the speech is in breach of S61 of the Human Rights Act.
He has also forwarded a copy of the complaint to the Chief Human Rights Commissioner “in light of the obvious conflict which the Race Relations Commissioner faces in relation to my complaint, and because of your own responsibilities under the statute.”
Mr McCully says he wants to ascertain that a
conflict of interest will not arise for the Chief Human
Rights Commissioner in dealing with his complaint against
the Race Relations Commissioner.
