A Just Decision In The Abbott Trial, Says Mark
New Zealand First congratulated the jury in the trial of Constable Keith Abbott for reaching a not guilty verdict.
“Today’s announcement must surely lift a huge burden from the Abbott family,” said law and order spokesperson Ron Mark.
“I am pleased the jury has come to the right decision in a case that had such huge consequences for all police officers and their families.
“The jury’s decision supports all front-line policemen and women who could find themselves in the same situation as Constable Abbott at any time.
“It is sickening that the Government ever allowed this case to get this far and for Constable Abbott’s identity to ever be revealed.
“It is imperative that the Govenrment now move urgently to pass legislation to protect the identities of police officers who find themselves under investigation for actions they have taken in the performance of their duty,” said Mr Mark.
