National sees pot-holes in Land Transport Bill
The National Party’s identified potholes in the Land Management Transport Bill that threaten a bumpy ride for Kiwi road
users.
“The rules surrounding Public Private Partnerships are too inflexible,” according to the National Party’s Transport
spokesman Roger Sowry.
“The Bill puts too much emphasis on Ministerial decisions rather than the commercial viability of any project on its own
merits.
“The National Party plans to support the Bill to the Select Committee stage and it’s there that we’ll fight to change
those clauses,” Mr Sowry says.
“We’re also disappointed on behalf of all road Kiwi road users.
“There’s no doubt we need more money for our roads, but those hoping this legislation would free up more cash from the
private sector for big projects will be sadly under whelmed,” Mr Sowry says.
