Spray Programme Not Working
New Zealand First MP Brent Catchpole has questioned the effectiveness of the eradication programme against the painted apple moth in Auckland because the pest is spreading outside the areas of spraying.
“This is the time of year when the moths are hatching and we know that they have spread outside of the area being sprayed so it can only get worse. The Government needs to find a more effective form of eradication.
“We are not against eradication of the moths but other methods must be considered, in particular stricter border controls.
“I will be talking at a rally tomorrow at Kelston community Centre in Auckland and will call on the Government to do a thorough inquiry into how this infestation happened and the effectiveness of this eradication programme to date,” said Mr Catchpole.
