Dunne unmoved by a load of old Coddingtons

“It’s always a pleasure to see the performance of new MP’s in Parliament and ACT MP, Deborah Coddington, is proving to be a particular source of delight,” said Ohariu-Belmont MP, Peter Dunne, today.

“Not content with deeply embarrassing herself with her grovelling adulatory speech in favour of her leader, Richard Prebble, at the weekend, Deborah now seeks to flay me in a press release that’s very long on allegation and extremely short on facts, truth or understanding.

“Debbie has now uncovered – shock, horror! – a letter from Transit New Zealand that says Transmission Gully is not fundable within the next 10 years under current arrangements.

“She’s quite right. The key phrase is ‘under current arrangements’. That’s why I tried unsuccessfully last year and successfully this year to change the current arrangements so that the project will be possible in the near future,” said Mr Dunne.

“Should Deborah get to stay much longer in Parliament, she’ll realise that’s how the process works. Everything does not change after your first speech, you actually have to knuckle down and do the hard work.

“Deborah then goes on to confuse public-private partnerships with ‘Think Big’ projects and attack me over the OSH legislation now before the House. If she were paying attention, she would know that United Future opposes this legislation and has proposed significant amendments to it, which it has challenged ACT to support.

“In fact, being assailed by Deborah is like being nuzzled by a little spring lamb – it’s very frisky, but not too bright and totally unfocussed.

Summing up, Mr Dunne said, “Deborah’s attack is just a tired load of old Coddingtons. She should be aware that when spring lambs mature, their eventual fate is to be shorn and then slaughtered.”
