“The ‘debate’ in the chamber last Thursday evening was an example of dim-witted time-wasting by the so-called Opposition.” This parliament began sitting on Tuesday with a menu of ten Bills to be debated, and by the third day we were languishing on only the fourth. An example of the deliberately slothlike pace of the opposition mentality was borne witness by the much heralded but spectacularly unimposing Don Brash who stated that National would support the Trade Marks Bill. This was followed up by hours and hours of ridiculous, dismally unwitty pointlessness that passed, like an ill-wind, for the National opposition.

“I know that the opposition is meant to oppose, but this National Party has outdone itself by plumbing new depths by stalling legislation they have no intention of opposing,” said United Future’s Marc Alexander.

After endless and mind-numbing points of order, with no discernible points at all, we were subjected to a speech by New Zealand Firsts’ Peter Brown whose ramblings included a tedious account of an Arsenal/Spurs soccer match, followed by a series of points of order concerning the appropriateness of Judith Tizards’ knitting!

One member of the National mob even went so far as to gloat that they had wasted seven hours!

“That the people of New Zealand, our employers, are forced to endure such a wasteful and shameful process under the pretence of scrutiny by a gaggle of leaderless buffoons who call themselves the National Party, are to put it bluntly, a national disgrace,” says Marc. “They pursue such a course because they are as frivolously directionless and as impotent as a headless chicken trying to cross the road!”
