Baldock urges Brown to wake up and pay attention
United Future New Zealand MP, Larry Baldock, today urged New Zealand First deputy leader, Peter Brown, to study the rules governing Parliament.
“I realise Mr Brown has spent more years in the House than I have, but his remarks today show he does not appear to have been paying attention,” he said.
“Mr Brown has today publicly castigated me for voting for the Ministry of Transport’s Estimates, while at the same time urging the government to spend more of the transport dollar on the national transport infrastructure.
“Mr Brown plainly is ignorant of the fact that an Estimates vote is a supply and confidence vote, on which United Future is committed to supporting the Labour-led Government in the national interest of stable government.
“He stands convicted out of his own mouth of ignorance of Parliamentary procedures. I feel sorry for Mr Brown, whose only Parliamentary model is his leader, Winston Peters, who can only operate with threats and demands.
“United Future, on the other hand, continues to demonstrate the true spirit of MMP which is persuasion and relationship-building and honours the voters’ desire for stable government.
“Mr Brown is deluded if he thinks the nation’s roading will be improved by our bringing down the government every other week,” concluded Mr Baldock.
