United Future urges ACT to grow up and start acting sensibly
United Future New Zealand leader, Peter Dunne, today urged the ACT Party to start acting responsibly when it sought
support for its opposition to legislation being considered by Parliament.
“For some time now, ACT has been promoting the fantasy that United Future supports the Health and Safety in Employment
Amendment Bill. As ACT well knows, this is not correct.
“United Future has proposed amendments to the Bill which would remove any mention of volunteers; lessen the harsh
obligations on employers to provide for undefined episodes of worker stress; and allow employers to take out insurance
against OSH claims.
“Even the most ignorant ACT supporter will see this does not constitute support for the Bill,” said Mr Dunne.
“ACT also persists in the stupid statement that the Bill will be passed because United Future supports the Government on
confidence and supply. This is also wrong. The Bill will be passed if Labour, the Progressive Coalition and the Greens
vote for it.
“ACT’s persistent willingness to spread these errors show they are either ignorant of how Parliament works or; more
eager to score cheap political points than to fashion a coalition of opposition to this unfair, anti-business
legislation. It is sad to see ACT persisting in the outdated strategy of placing its party interests ahead of the
interests of all New Zealanders,” concluded Mr Dunne.
