Egg on face for Maharey over unemployment increase
Social Services Minister Steve Maharey has egg on his face after crowing that unemployment was on its way down, today’s household labour force survey figures in fact show an increase.
“This attitude shows a real complacency towards people out of work, and if he is complacent then what hope have the jobless got of ever gaining employment.
“The Minister of course tried to put a spin on it by putting out a release saying that unemployment was now at 5.1%, then only moments later the survey figures came out which in fact showed the true figure was 5.4%.
“The reality is a further 6000 people are now out of work and what they need is jobs not complacency,” says Mr Sowry.
