Nigerian stoning case condemned
There's been cross party support in the house for a motion condemning the stoning sentence handed down to a Nigerian woman for having a child out of marriage.
A motion brought by
National's Sandra Goudie was unanimously endorsed in the
debating chamber, it implores the Nigerian president to
intervene in Amina Lawall's case.
"In New Zealand we enjoy the benefits of strong human rights legislation and it's up to nations like ours to help keep those which don't, in check.
"It's great to see our politicians burying their differences and joining the international fight against injustice," Sandra Goudie says.
