Bali Bombings Attack Western Society Says Peters
New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters has described the bombings in Bali as a planned attack on Western society and has demanded the Government tighten this country’s border controls.
He said the horrific carnage brought about by the bombings showed that those involved were fanatics with absolutely no consideration for humanity even when it included people of their own religious persuasion.
Mr Peters said the bombings were “frighteningly close to home” and of grave concern when “we have virtually no border security in New Zealand”.
“When convicted triple murders, necrophiliacs and rapists can come into this country, then clearly we have little border security at all.
“With our open door immigration policies we could already have some of these terrorists in this country.
“Indonesia is the assembly and launching place for the so-called asylum seekers that the Government is letting come into the country in droves.
“The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that only seven of the Afghan asylum seekers rescued by the Norwegian container ship Tampa, and taken to Nauru Island, were found to be genuine refugees.
Mr Peters said that most Western democracies had tight rules for refugees and immigrants but New Zealand was ”incredibly slack”.
“We are placing New Zealanders at risk with our open borders. We must keep the fanatics out and the last two Governments have been absolutely remiss in not taking the appropriate steps to make New Zealand secure,” he said.
