Terror Attack Must Prompt NZ to Change Stance
Every New Zealander will be shocked that organised terror has struck in our region, ACT New Zealand Defence and Foreign Affairs Spokesman Ken Shirley said today.
"Just one year ago, the Prime Minister said our nation was in a "strategically benign" environment. She made the comment as she dismantled our armed forces and struck an isolationist position distancing us from our traditional allies.
"The horror of the Bali terror attack proves that the Prime Minister has made a major error. This attack underpins the need for New Zealand to play a full role in the fight against terror.
"Our isolationism is based on her mistaken and misguided belief that we are immune from attack.
"The nature of warfare has changed
- no longer do national armies line up against each
other. Instead, small and fanatical groups are working
internationally. New Zealand cannot afford not to join our
friends in the fight back against terror," Mr Shirley said.
