Feedback on rotting homes mediation red herring
People affected by the rotting home crisis will barely have time to comment to the Department of Internal Affairs panel seeking feedback on the Government's mediation process, says National Housing Spokesperson Dr Wayne Mapp.
"The Government is pretending it is seeking feedback on the process. In fact it is writing to selected people and giving them two days to respond, that is if they get the letter in time at all.
"The letters have been sent out on October 8 and people are expected to respond by October 11. Many won't have even received the letters by the time they are supposed to have replied.
"Again the Government has been caught on the back foot in the rotting homes issue. It has set up a mediation process that won't work because those liable are not bound to turn up.
"The Government's attempt to get feedback on the mediation process over the short timeframe of only a few days shows it is continuing to make rushed and sloppy decisions. This indicates it is simply not prepared to find the answers and solutions to this problem," Dr Mapp said.
