Sorry National—Spies haven’t invaded Defence Headquarters after all
Further to today’s investigations, preliminary indications from police are that the break-in at Defence Headquarters on Saturday morning was a random case theft.
Interviews today with the fourth-floor staff where the break-in occurred confirmed that no secure containers were accessed. Most of the items are personal, including four sets of car keys.
Two laptop computers are also missing, neither of which contain any classified information.
“This appears to be a random break-in, and while it is obviously of concern that security was breached, it now looks likely that the culprit was an opportunistic thief,” said Minister of Defence Mark Burton.
A full security review is already underway, and a full police report is expected by the end of this week.
