MP must exit business selling speed substitutes
Bill English - National Leader
Green MP Nandor Tanczos should sell out of his Hemp Store business or have products being sold as ecstasy substitutes removed from its shelves, says National Leader Bill English.
“It is very serious for an MP to be involved in a business that is essentially promoting ecstasy. We can’t have an MP involved around the edges of illegal drugs distribution,” Mr English said.
His comments follow reports that the Hemp Store, part-owned by Nandor Tanczos, is selling ecstasy substitutes and other products designed to be taken before and after ecstasy to enhance its effects.
“The Greens leadership should take
very seriously Nandor Tanczos’ involvement in this business.
“It is totally unacceptable for an MP to be making
profit out of promoting the use of an illegal drug like
ecstasy. There should not be any need to question the
involvement of a politician in an activity related to
serious drugs.
“Nandor Tanczos has taken his
crusade for the liberalisation of drugs way past the limit
of acceptability. He owes the public and the Green Party an
explanation, and ignorance of the products in his store is
not an excuse.
“Many young people will not recognise the difference between illegal dealing in ecstasy and activities of the Hemp Store. That is why Mr Tanczos must remove the product or get out of the business,” Mr English said.
