Labour’s cynical disregard for elderly voters
Labour’s cynical disregard for elderly voters
Roger Sowry - National MP
The Government’s weak promise to drop income and asset testing for the elderly shows their cynical disregard for elderly voters, says National’s acting Social Services spokesperson Roger Sowry.
“The elderly and organisations like Grey Power have been cynically taking advantage of by Labour, with its promise to drop income and asset testing.
“To change the law a fortnight before it was to come into effect, and then promise to reintroduce income and asset testing shows how far Labour is prepared to manipulate elderly voters.
“Now Ruth Dyson says it will be at least a couple of years until Labour removes asset testing. Labour promised the same thing three years ago.
“For Grey Power to stand silent on this issue after its previous stance, makes it no more than a branch of the Labour Party,” Mr Sowry said.
