Cullen Off To LA, Apec

Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Michael Cullen will co-lead a discussion on financial sector and fiscal reform with Mexican Finance Minister Francisco Gil Diaz at the Apec Finance Ministers Meeting in Los Cabos, Mexico next week.

Dr Cullen will also have bilaterals with Dr Diaz, the US Deputy Under Secretary for International Affairs, Randy Quarles, the Minister of Finance for China, Xiang Huaicheng, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance for Thailand, Somkid Jatusripitak, Japanese Senior Vice Minister Hidehisa Otsuji, the Minister of Finance for Taiwan, Lee Yung-san, the Korean Minister of Finance, Jeon Yun-churl, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister John Manley and Australian Treasurer Peter Costello.

Other topics on the Apec agenda include: money laundering and the financing of terrorism and improving the allocation of domestic savings for economic development.

En route to Mexico, Dr Cullen will meet with investors in Los Angeles. He will address a business lunch hosted by the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, give a presentation to key clients and personnel from Deutsche Bank, visit the Chief Economist of the LA Economic Development Corporation, Jack Kyser, and attend a dinner with prominent LA-based expatriates.

He will be accompanied on the trip by Chris Mackenzie. They leave New Zealand for LA on Monday, 2 September, leave LA for Los Cabos on Wednesday, 4 September, and leave Los Cabos to return home on Friday, 6 September.
