It is rich for the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment to be pooh-poohing economic growth when he lives high on the hog on a taxpayer supplied salary over four-times the average wage, ACT Finance Spokesman Rodney Hide said today.
Mr Hide was responding to Dr Morgan William's report calling for economic goals to shift away from growth, and for "environmental" taxes.
"I challenge Dr Williams to stand for office on a platform of poverty. He will find that taxpayers object to paying $1.685 million for his office to create thick reports on how to hike taxes even further.
"It is bad enough that our taxes are higher than any of our trading partners - if Dr Williams and the Green party have their way, things can only get much worse.
"Dr Williams' entire office is a waste of resources, and should be chopped - in the interest of conservation," Mr Hide said.
