Pressure on United Future's principles
The heat will come on United Future this week as those that put them into Parliament watch to see if they succumb to the
trappings of government, or stick to their principles as they work through a coalition agreement, says National's Gerry
Brownlee.
"United Future went out in this election on defined principles and it will be interesting to see whether they cave into
Helen Clark's left liberal wing.
"If they stay true to their beliefs we can expect to see in a Coalition Agreement the repeal of the Matrimonial,
Property and Relationship Act, the Abortion, Sterilisation, and Contraception Act and the Sentencing Act.
"We could expect the Coalition Agreement to include the removal from the order paper of the Prostitution Reform Bill and
introduction of tougher film and television censorship laws.
"Any agreement will almost certainly put paid to Helen Clark's plan to introduce a bill for gay adoptions, gay marriages
and more liberal marijuana use laws.
"Many New Zealanders will be watching with interest to see if United Future passes this first test of their principles,"
says Mr Brownlee.
