Greens GE indignation doesn't sit well with advocacy for Cannabis legislation - United Future

The sheer hypocrisy and cynicism of the Greens and their supporters is underlined by their righteous indignation over the Gisborne GE Maize claims, while at the same time they advocate the legalisation of Cannabis, according to Inky Tulloch, President of the United Future party.

Mr Tulloch said the orchestrated release of the Hager book just three weeks out from an election - containing information which Jeanette Fitzsimons was made aware of by the government last December but chose to withhold - confirmed his party's view that the Greens weren't responsible partners for Labour.

"Their hypocrisy is breathtaking. They are up in arms about a possible GE contamination in experimental maize, which subsequent scientific tests proved was not an issue, yet they support the legalisation of the single largest chemical danger to New Zealand today - Cannabis.

Mr Tulloch said his party was vehemently opposed to Cannabis legalisation because of the danger to children of school age and immature adults.

"The Schools and streets of New Zealand bear witness to the danger to New Zealand of Cannabis use among the young. Teenagers are proven to be at their most vulnerable and susceptible to the mentally altering chemicals in Cannabis.

"Ask any teacher who has experience of pupils regularly using Cannabis: they will tell you the horror stories about the sudden decline in academic application and the changed social and moral perspectives of these children."

Mr Tulloch said the Greens opposition to Genetic Modification, which had been practiced in agriculture for thousands of years, (As opposed to Genetic Engineering, being the Trans-Genetic transfer between different organisms) simply didn't make sense in the face of their advocacy for free use of Cannabis.

"This latest Green conspiracy theory is consistent with the effects of sustained Cannabis use which apparently can lead to paranoia".

Mr Tulloch said his party remained confident of winning the Ohariu Belmont seat, "as a result of the recent UMR Insight Poll giving Peter Dunne 55 per cent of the vote (Labour 22 per cent) our party is very confident of winning the Ohariu Belmont seat and increasing our list vote to 5 per cent, voters will therefore recognise that their vote will not be wasted as is the case with smaller parties".

" Our campaign gets into full swing shortly with television advertising, so we believe we will start to register with voters as a way of casting an intelligent list vote".
