Government Whip Lets Secret Tax Bombshell Out of the Bag
Thursday 4 Jul 2002
At an electorate meeting at the Havelock North Community Centre at a Grey Power Forum of `Meet the Candidates' this morning in front of local media, Government whip Rick Barker announced that the Labour Government would introduce a special health tax to fund health in the future.
ACT Finance Spokesman MP Rodney Hide said today, "Helen Clark is practicing the politics of tax and spend. We now have part of her secret agenda, should she remain prime minister.
"Helen Clark should come clean with voters and tell us all precisely what policies she is proposing for New Zealand for the next three years.
"She's pledged not to increase income tax or company tax. She needs now to go much further and pledge not to introduce any new taxes, or to increase the myriad of other taxes and charges that New Zealanders must pay.
"Already her Chief Whip has shown her pledges to have as much credibility as one of her paintings," Rodney Hide said.
