The Evening Post will be sadly missed

Readers of the Wellington region will mourn the loss of the Evening Post, National Deputy Leader Roger Sowry said today.

"The Evening Post has been a great paper for the region. It has been the voice of the people covering in more depth than any other issues affecting the region's four cities and the Kapiti District.

"It has been Wellington's local newspaper, raising issues for debate and running campaigns for major issues such as the future of Wellington Hospital and a transport route through Transmission Gully."

Mr Sowry has dealt with The Post throughout his time as an MP for the Kapiti area for 12 years.

"This is a sad loss when we have the closure of an award winning paper that is still profitable. The Post has won newspaper of the year several times in recent years, as well as several design and photography awards.

"The Post's achievements are even more noteworthy because the paper is unique in that it is put together under very tight deadlines. It's staff have been very dedicated in putting out a high quality newspaper.

"The closure of The Post will leave a big gap for Wellingtonians. People of the region will mourn its loss," Mr Sowry said.
