“Huge multi-national companies like Carter Holt Harvey must recognise their responsibilities of corporate citizenship,” said Council of Trade Unions secretary Paul Goutler today.
Paul Goulter is a speaker at a lunchtime rally on Nelson’s Cathedral steps tomorrow to address Carter Holt’s Harvey’s employment and community issues.
“Carters have to realise that corporate citizenship means more than taking profits out of communities,” said Paul Goulter.
“Companies like Carters must adjust to the communities they operate in and the workforces they employ.”
Paul Goulter said the rally would highlight community issues such as CHH’s practice of driving huge logging trucks through residential areas against the will of the community and bitter employment disputes, such that concerning workers at Eves Valley.
“The Eves Valley dispute should have been settled a long time ago.” He said.
“Carter Holt Harvey is also of course responsible for the long dispute on Nelson’
waterfront which threatens casualisation of a long-standing workforce.”
The rally, which begins at 12 noon, tomorrow (Friday 21 June) has been jointly organised by the Nelson Action Group, Nelson Safe Streets Association and the Nelson Council of Trade Unions.
