Deputy PM
18 June 2002 Media Statement
Progressive Coalition Invitation
Jim Anderton has welcomed an invitation to join the Progressive Coalition and lead it into the 2002 election.
“Accepting this invitation is a litle like Mission Impossible. We have to build a party structure from nothing, launch a national campaign, develop policy, select candidates and do all this with no broadcasting funding in six weeks.
“Like all MPs, I will remain an MP as elected in 1999 until polling day.
“The campaign launch is on Saturday in Auckland and from that day the Progressive Campaign is on the road,” said Jim Anderton.
The Progressive Coalition invitation is to lead the party into the election and until such time as it can be confirmed by the full party membership.
