Electoral Commission Should Investigate Donations To National
Green Party co-leader Rod Donald has asked the Chief Executive of the Electoral Commission Paul Harris to investigate whether the National Party breached the Electoral Act in 1996 by failing to declare an estimated $250,000 donation from Fay Richwhite.
"The Electoral Commission must undertake an investigation of National Party finances following the revelation that National received the Fay Richwhite donation after party's were legally required to declare donations," said Mr Donald.
"Even though National may escape prosecution because of a six month time limit it is vital for the integrity of our electoral law that the public knows the truth.
"If National has broken the law then they will still be judged in the court of public opinion," he said.
