Alliance Candidate For Ohariu-Belmont Selected
The Alliance Party selected Rebecca Matthews as its
candidate for Ohariu-Belmont for a second time at a meeting
in Johnsonville today.
Rebecca Matthews says her main goal for the election is to gain party votes to see MPs like Laila Harre and Willie Jackson returned to parliament under the Alliance banner.
“I know that there are thousands of voters in this electorate who think free health, free education and fair trade are policies worth voting for. The best step towards seeing these policies become a reality is by voting Alliance.”
“Labour and National can slug it out with Peter Dunne about which individual becomes the local MP,” said Matthews. “Voters in this electorate also want to have a say on what happens nationally, and voting Alliance is their way to achieve this. Paid parental leave and the kiwi bank are examples of what the Alliance can achieve in government.”
“This election is about building further on gains made in the current term of government, particularly in the areas of health and education,” said Matthews.
“I’m committed to ensuring the Alliance is still part of the next government,” said Matthews.
Rebecca Matthews (29) is the Researcher for the New Zealand University Students Association and Vice President of the low paid worker, beneficiary and student union Unite!. She has been a member of the Alliance Council for the past year, representing Staunch, the youth and student wing of the party.
