Resource Management (Aquaculture Moratorium) Amendment Bill
The Primary Production Committee is inviting public submissions on the Resource Management (Aquaculture Moratorium)
Amendment Bill. The closing date for submissions is Friday, 8 February 2002.
This bill imposes a moratorium on new aquaculture activities in coastal marine areas. The moratorium applies
retrospectively from 28 November 2001 and will expire two years after the data on which it comes into force or upon the
introduction of an approved coastal plan.
The objective is to provide regional councils with the opportunity, during the moratorium, to include rules in their
regional coastal plans to properly manage the extent of aquaculture, in the same way as land use zones are currently
written into a region s plans.
Those wishing to give oral evidence should contact Bob Bunch as early as possible in January 2002, prior to sending
their written submission.
Copies of the bill can be purchased from Bennetts Government Bookshops.
The committee requires 20 copies of each submission. Those wishing to include any information of a private or personal
nature in a submission should first discuss this with the clerk of the committee, as submissions are usually released to
the public by the committee. Those wishing to appear before the committee to speak to their submissions should state
this clearly and provide a daytime telephone contact number. For further guidance on making a submission, our
publication Making a Submission to a Parliamentary Select Committee can be found on our web site at
www.clerk.parliament.govt.nz.
Submissions should be addressed as follows:
